Downscaling (making images smaller) is sharp and clean — we use high-quality smoothing for crisp results. Upscaling beyond an image’s original size will look softer, since there’s no extra detail to add; resized images that are upscaled are clearly flagged so you always know.
A PNG stays a PNG, a JPG stays a JPG, and the same goes for WebP, GIF, and AVIF — the resizer never silently changes your format. For GIFs, the first frame is resized (animation is flattened to a single still frame).
These apply when the aspect ratio is unlocked and you’ve set both width and height. **Stretch** fills the exact dimensions and may distort the image. **Contain** fits the whole image inside the box and pads the edges. **Cover** fills the box completely and crops any overflow. With aspect ratio locked, proportions are always preserved and no distortion or cropping occurs.
