Add or remove VAT from any price — choose a standard rate or enter a custom rate, and see the full net, VAT, and gross breakdown.
VAT Calculator · calculate Value Added Tax additions or removals · presets for global regions
Input the price you’re working with — net (excluding VAT) or gross (VAT-inclusive).
Select a common rate (UK 20%, EU 21%, UAE 5%, Saudi Arabia 15%) or enter any custom percentage.
Net price, VAT amount, and VAT-inclusive gross price are all displayed clearly.
To add VAT: Gross = Net × (1 + rate/100). At 20%: £100 net → £120 gross. To remove VAT from a gross price: Net = Gross / (1 + rate/100). At 20%: £120 gross → £120 / 1.20 = £100 net. The VAT amount is £20. A common error is to subtract 20% of the gross (£24) rather than dividing — the calculator does this correctly.
VAT is used across the EU, UK, Middle East, Australia (GST), and many other countries. Common rates: UK 20% (standard), EU ranges from 17–27% by country (Germany 19%, France 20%, Sweden 25%), UAE 5%, Saudi Arabia 15%, Australia 10% GST. The custom rate field handles any rate.
Zero-rated items have a 0% VAT rate — VAT is still charged but at 0%, meaning businesses can still reclaim VAT on their inputs for these goods. VAT-exempt items fall outside the VAT system entirely — no VAT is charged, but businesses cannot reclaim input VAT on costs associated with producing them. This distinction matters for VAT returns but not for the end consumer.

VAT (Value Added Tax) is a consumption tax applied in over 160 countries and used in virtually all commercial transactions in affected jurisdictions. Calculating it correctly in both directions — adding VAT to a net price and extracting the net from a VAT-inclusive total — is a daily need for businesses, freelancers, and anyone shopping internationally. This calculator handles both directions with any VAT rate, includes quick presets for the most common rates, and shows the full breakdown of net, VAT amount, and gross so every component of the price is transparent and verifiable.
