FAQ
Common questions
Open Graph (OG) tags are meta tags added to a page’s <head> that control how that page appears when shared as a link on social platforms. Without them, Facebook, LinkedIn, and similar sites guess at the title, description, and image — often with poor results. OG tags let you set exactly what displays: the headline, the preview image, the description, and the content type.
The four essential properties are og:title, og:type, og:image, and og:url. Without these, many platforms won’t render a rich link preview at all. og:description and og:site_name are strongly recommended — they significantly improve how your links look in feeds.
The recommended size is 1200×630 pixels at a minimum of 600×314 pixels. Images smaller than 600×314 may not render as large card previews on some platforms and will display as a small thumbnail instead. Use a JPG or PNG — avoid text-heavy images since they scale poorly at small sizes.
Open Graph tags control link previews on Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and most other social platforms. Twitter (now X) uses its own twitter: meta tag system — Twitter Cards. Many platforms fall back to OG tags when Twitter Card tags are absent, but for full control over Twitter previews, use both. The Twitter Card Generator on this site handles the Twitter-specific tags.

About the Open Graph Tag Generator
When someone shares your page on Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, or WhatsApp, the platform reads your Open Graph tags to build the link preview card — the title, image, and description that appear before the URL. If those tags are missing or wrong, the platform either guesses (usually badly) or shows a blank card. Getting OG tags right is a small change with a disproportionate impact on click-through rates from social shares. This generator builds the full set of OG meta tags from your page details, shows you a live social card preview, and outputs clean HTML ready to paste into your <head> or your theme’s SEO settings.
