FAQ
Common questions
A Twitter Card is a rich link preview that appears in the feed when someone shares your page on X (formerly Twitter). Instead of a plain URL, the post shows a card with your page title, description, and image. Twitter reads the twitter: meta tags in your page head to build the card – without those tags, it falls back to Open Graph tags, which may produce a smaller or less controlled preview.
Summary shows a small square thumbnail image alongside the title and description – similar to how most links look in a feed. Summary Large Image shows a large horizontal image above the title and description, taking up more feed space and drawing significantly more attention. Use Summary Large Image for articles, blog posts, and content pages where the image is a core part of the story.
For Summary Large Image, use a 1200×628 pixel image (2:1 aspect ratio). Minimum is 300×157 pixels – below that, the large image card will not render. For Summary cards, a 1:1 square image works best, minimum 144×144 pixels. Twitter crops images that do not match the expected ratio, so design specifically for the card type.
Twitter falls back to Open Graph tags when Twitter Card tags are absent, so OG tags alone often produce a basic preview. For full control over how your content looks on X – especially to ensure Summary Large Image renders correctly rather than defaulting to a small thumbnail – add explicit Twitter Card tags alongside your OG tags.

About the Twitter Card Generator
Every time a link is shared on X, Twitter’s crawler reads the page’s meta tags to build the preview card shown in the feed. Open Graph tags provide a fallback, but Twitter Card tags give you direct control: which card layout to use, what image to show, what the title and description say, and which account gets credited. This matters more than most people realize – a Summary Large Image card takes up 4-5x more feed space than a plain link and consistently drives higher engagement. This generator produces the correct twitter: meta tag set for either card type, with a live preview so you can see the result before adding the tags to your page.
